Association Plant a tree, don't be a stump! launched a national tree planting project whose goal is planned to plant trees, especially fruit trees of autochthonous varieties and preserve their gene pool. By participating in the project, students learn about the importance of preserving green areas, enriching them and generally reducing the harmful impact on the environment. In less than two years, 75,000 participants took part in the campaign, and more than 200,000 trees were planted.
As part of the "Be a STEMfluencer" project activities, the Project promoter – Primary school Lučko gathered students who are enthusiastic in astronomy, stargazing, looking at the sky and beyond. Students of the seventh and eighth grades visited Zagreb Observatory in the upper town where they learned more about the characteristics of the Sun, the universe, and the stars and wondered if we were alone in the universe.
Students of Primary School Vugrovec-Kašina observed a solar eclipse, a celestial phenomenon that occurs when the Moon "gets in the way" between the Earth and the Sun. The solar eclipse must not be observed without special glasses or filters for which the school has provided the necessary equipment for their small observers. The eclipse began 25 October around 11:20 am, peaked an hour later and lasted until 1:34 pm. At the peak of the eclipse, 1/3 of the Sun's visible surface was darkened.
The principal of Primary School Lučko Pavo Šimović, the director of the Zagreb Development Agency Željka Kovačić and the project team member Natalija Pejčinović attended the signing of the Grant Contract for the project "Be a STEMfluencer" with the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds. The total value of the grant for the project, whose project application was prepared by the Zagreb Development Agency under the call "Strengthening STEM skills in primary schools and development of Regional Science Centers for primary school education in the STEM area", published under the Programme for Local Development and Poverty Reduction, amounts to 734,405.40 EUR.
Five teachers, members of the Be a STEMfluencer project team started education on the topic of reading and writing for critical thinking in the duration of 80 hours through 8 workshops. The seminar "Reading and writing for critical thinking" has been held in Croatia since 1998 and it prooves to be a popular workshop attended by more than 3000 teachers from all educational levels. This seminar brings a special teaching framework that contains 80 different techniques and methods that can be used in the class, enabling students to adopt the teaching content consciously, with understanding and active participation.
