Young chemists of Primary school Lučko visited the family farm of Mr. Zlatko Čanđar

Students of the seventh grade, Young chemists from  Primary school Lučko visited the family farm from Mr. Zlatko Čanđar in Šumećani near Ivanić-Grad.

This family farm is engaged in the production and processing of lavender budrovka.

During this field visit, the students learned a lot more about the cultivation of lavender, its harvest and distillation.

By distilling lavender, Mr. Čanđar gets essential oil and hydrolate, and uses both products in his natural cosmetics: face creams, soaps, solid shampoos, lip balms and balms. Among the products there are bottles with essential oil and lavender hydrolate, teas and bags filled with dried lavender flowers.

During this thematic visit our STEMfluencers learned a lot about the healing properties of herbs that help alleviate many diseases and ailments such as asthma, allergies, migraines, arthritis, etc. They enriched their knowledge in the production of creams and lip balms and learned in practice about  the saponification process.

At the end of the tour, the students tasted delicious lavender biscuits baked by Zlatko's wife Magda and visited the lavender field where the story of the this family farm begun.

Magda and Zlatko gave the students fragrant lavender bags as a souvenir as a memory on their farm visit. On behalf of the Tourist Board Ivanić-Grad the students received lavender seeds that they will grow in the school STEM garden.
